Moving Through July with Grace

Honoring the experiences, reflections, and gentle moments of progress that unfolded throughout July, as we welcome you to another issue of the formula.

Dual Realities; One Response Summit

Connecting Conversations for Better Care🤝

On July 22, Houston Peer Success attended Harris County Public Health’s Dual Realities, One Response: Advancing Integrated Substance Use and Behavioral Health Care summit. The event focused on strengthening connections between substance use and mental health services to support more coordinated, person-centered care.

Healthcare providers, advocates, community organizations, and individuals with lived experience came together to share perspectives and discuss the challenges that arise when substance use and mental health needs overlap. Houston Peer Success connected with participating groups and joined conversations focused on improving collaboration, accessibility, and community support. The summit reinforced the value of bringing diverse voices together to help build healthier and more responsive systems of care.

SAPD 5K Fun Run: Every Step Helps a Student

Making a Difference, One Stride at a Time

On July 26, SA Connection Center took part in the SAPD 5K Fun Run: Every Step Helps a Student at SeaWorld San Antonio. Organized by SAPD Central SAFFE officers, the back-to-school event featured a 5K, school-supply drive, and health and safety fair in support of local students.

Families, officers, local organizations, and community partners gathered for a morning centered on connection and giving back. The SA Connection Center team engaged with attendees and shared information about available resources. Beyond the race, families also had an opportunity to learn about services and support available throughout the San Antonio community. The generosity shown through school-supply donations reflected how collective support can brighten futures and make a lasting difference across the community.

Quote of the Month

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I change."

-  Carl Rogers

This month’s quote reminds us that accepting ourselves does not mean giving up on growth. Instead, it means recognizing where we are with honesty and compassion, rather than believing we must criticize or reject ourselves in order to change. When we stop fighting every part of who we are, we create more space to understand our needs, learn from our experiences, and move forward with greater clarity. Growth often begins not with pressure to become someone different, but with the willingness to meet ourselves as we are and take the next step from there.

Reflection Question of the Month

What do you need more of right now: rest, connection, clarity, or encouragement, and how can you create space for it?

Take a moment to pause and think about this question.
