Global Peer Support Celebration

Reclaiming Our Power: Celebrating Global Peer Support Celebration Day

The Connection Center RGV hosted 2 Global Peer Support Celebration Day events to celebrate the progress made by those in recovery, Global Peer Support Dayraise awareness, and provide resources for health—encompassing mind, body, and spirit. Most importantly, the events aimed to create a positive message for our community. This year, we hosted two events: one at the San Juan Advancement Center in Hidalgo County and another at the Consulado de México in Brownsville.

The theme for this year was "Reclaiming Our Power." Both events were filled with joy, gratitude, a sense of belonging, and heartfelt testimonials. The Connection Center RGV was honored to receive a proclamation from Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, declaring October 18 as Peer Support Day. Similarly, Mayor Javier Villalobos issued a proclamation declaring the same day as Peer Support Day in McAllen, TX.

These events served as a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the peer recovery community. By bringing people together to share stories and celebrate milestones, the Connection Center RGV continues to inspire hope and empowerment. The success of this year’s events reinforces the importance of peer support in fostering mental health and wellness across our communities.

Quote of the Month

"The oak fought the wind and was broken,

the willow bent when it must and survived."

-  Robert Jordan

This excerpt from Robert Jordan's "The Fires of Heaven" conveys a powerful message of resilience and adaptability. It highlights the importance of flexibility in the face of adversity, emphasizing that survival often depends on our ability to adapt rather than resist change. The oak, though strong, breaks under pressure, while the willow survives by bending and flowing with the challenges it faces. This poetic metaphor serves as a reminder to embrace life's struggles with grace and openness.
