🚀 Community Drug Awareness Day

Building Awareness, Strengthening Communities 🤝

Houston Peer Success had a wonderful time joining the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for Community Drug Awareness Day. The event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with community members, learn from one another, and take part in meaningful conversations around substance use awareness and prevention.

The day featured insightful workshops and brought together partners from peer support, social work, clinical services, and other professional communities. Attendees explored the current landscape of substance use among youth and young adults, along with preventative measures that can help address this growing concern.

The team also heard perspectives from members of the justice system, including two judges and an attorney, on the criminalization of substance use.

It was a meaningful day of learning, connection, and conversation, highlighting the importance of continued education, awareness, and collaboration in supporting healthier communities. 🌱

Quote of the Month

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."

-  Maya Angelou

This month’s quote reminds us that carrying our thoughts and experiences alone can sometimes make them feel even heavier. Giving ourselves permission to express what we are going through, whether through conversation, writing, or simply acknowledging it to ourselves, can help us process those emotions more openly. We do not have to share everything with everyone, but finding a safe space to be heard can bring understanding, connection, and a sense of relief. Sometimes, the moment we give our story a voice is the moment it begins to feel a little lighter.

Reflection Question of the Month

What are you giving your attention to most often right now, and is it giving anything meaningful back to you?

Take a moment to pause and think about this question.
