Reflecting on June’s Quiet Progress

With gentle growth and calm moments behind us, we pause to honor June’s steady unfolding as we welcome you to another issue of the formula.

🌿 Exploring Wellness Together at Haven for Hope

On June 4th, the Connection Center San Antonio team hosted a group session at Haven for Hope, welcoming any residents who wanted to join. The session focused on the Wellness Wheel, sparking discussion about the eight dimensions of wellness and how each area supports overall mental and physical well-being.

Residents were engaged and open, sharing their thoughts and personal experiences. The new interim CEO also joined to observe the session, showing strong support for these conversations and the value they bring to the community. It was an encouraging reminder of how sharing knowledge and creating space for dialogue can help people feel seen, supported, and more connected on their recovery journey.

🍔 Summer Kickoff Cookout at The Spot

Gathering for Food, Friendship, and Fun

On June 26th, the community gathered at The Spot for a vibrant Summer Kickoff Cookout. Youth and young adults from The Spot, peer specialists from the San Antonio Connection Center team, case managers from Chrysalis and THRIVE, and youth and young adults interested in The Spot came together to enjoy good food, music, and relaxed conversation as they celebrated the start of the season. The cookout gave everyone a chance to step away from daily routines and connect in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Moments like this help people build new friendships, share stories, and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes community support possible.

Laughter, good food, and simple togetherness turned an ordinary day into something memorable. It was a reminder that shared meals and small celebrations can bring people closer in meaningful ways. The event captured smiles and moments of connection that everyone will carry forward into the summer ahead.

📍 San Antonio Behavioral Health Visit

Finding Connection Through Small Moments

On June 17th, members from the Connection Center San Antonio team began visiting San Antonio Behavioral Health to spend meaningful time with patients. They went into the units and engaged directly with patients, who genuinely seemed to enjoy the conversations and interactions with the peers. One patient shared, “You don’t talk down to us; you talk to us like we patients talk to each other.”

During the visit, peers and patients colored together, played card games, and shared plenty of laughs. It was heartwarming to see how something as simple as these activities could spark joy and create a sense of connection. The patients were welcoming and open, reminding everyone how powerful small moments of kindness and fun can be in someone’s day. Our peers also took time to share information about the Connection Center San Antonio and the importance of peer support, handing out brochures and reminding patients that they are never alone on their journey.

Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones

Wisdom from the World’s Oldest People

This month we’re featuring Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones, an eye-opening documentary that uncovers the everyday secrets of the world’s longest-living communities. From nourishing meals to strong friendships and a deep sense of purpose, these Blue Zones show us how small, intentional choices can help us thrive, not just survive.

Through real stories and on-the-ground visits, the series explores how environment, culture, and daily routines all play a role in longevity. It’s full of simple lessons we can adapt to our own lives, no matter where we live. It’s a reminder that our mental well-being is deeply connected to how we eat, move, connect, and find meaning. You’ll come away inspired to bring a little more balance and joy into your daily life. Let this series spark ideas for your own version of a Blue Zone right where you are.

"I highly recommend this inspiring documentary series that explores the world’s “Blue Zones” regions where people live exceptionally long, healthy lives. What makes this series especially powerful for our community is its focus on elements that align closely with mental wellness. - Elsa Roman

Quote of the Month

“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention.”

-  L.R. Knost

This month’s quote reminds us that healing, whether in ourselves or our communities, does not happen by accident. It invites us to face what is broken with honesty and to choose action, kindness, and care as part of the mending process. Even in difficult seasons, we hold the power to create wholeness through intention and compassion. Small, mindful steps toward repair can bring hope and light where it is needed most.
